Kyowa Medex Co., Ltd. has concluded an agreement to supply Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur with a fully automated device for microplate enzymatic immunoassay |

Kyowa Medex Co., Ltd. (President: Tetsuo OKA) has concluded a supply agreement with Nippon Sanofi Co., Ltd. on a fully automated device for microplate enzymatic immunoassay "WAAMS" originally developed by the company. WAAMS is a device that the company developed for immunoassay, one of laboratory tests, which is a method called "ELISA" that determines antigen-antibody reaction by using enzymatic activities. This method examines whether substances (mainly proteins) serving as indicators of some diseases (for example, AIDS) are detected in blood or not, which is helpful for making a diagnosis. Since a small quantity of blood is reacted with a small quantity of reagents, accurate operations such as sampling, mixing, washing, color development, determination, etc. with a high precision are required.WAAMS has the advantages of not only fully automated operations from sampling to determination but also permitting the conditions of reaction or determination to be freely changed and thus being applicable to various kinds of examinations. The present agreement was made with Nippon Sanofi Co., Ltd., but in practice, WAAMS will be marketed worldwide through Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur Co., Ltd., which is a joint corporation of Sanofi Co., Ltd. and Institute Pasteur in France. Kyowa Medex intends to expand worldwide activities by making the most use of the company*s technology to create products that satisfy customers* needs, and by pursuing further researches aiming at the development of diagnostic reagents and devices that enable more rapid, accurate and easy measurement of laboratory test data indispensable for the diagnosis of disease. WAAMS is a device modified to fit the Sanofi*s specifications such as temperature control, on the basis of AP-960 developed by Kyowa Medex and currently marketed in Japan. AP-960 is now widely used in laboratory test centers and various research institutions and much expected to achieve sales growth, because it has the advantages of not only fully automated operations from sampling to determination but also permitting the conditions of reaction and determination to be freely changed.
Kyowa Medex Co., Ltd. (President: Tetsuo OKA) is a company which was separated from and became independent of the diagnostics department of Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co., Ltd. (President: Tadashi HIRATA)and which was established in 1981 as a subsidiary of which Kyowa Hakko has a 100% ownership. The company manufactures and markets biochemical diagnostic reagents, immunodiagnostic kit using monoclonal antibodies, medical devices, etc.
