Development of a New Scored Tablet
which is divisible into two equal portions from either side of
tablet in a packaged state.

Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co., Ltd. (President: Tadashi Hirata) has developed a new tablet formulation which allows easy and uniform division into two equal portions by only pushing the tablet with a finger while it is in its package.
For the purpose of adjusting the dosage for individual patients, the division of a scored tablet is frequently performed in actual medical care, and this handling is left in the hands of pharmacists or patients. The conventional scored tablet had a limitation that it was divisible from only one side, and its exact division involved a considerable difficulty in a packaged state (PTP package).
The new scored tablet that we have developed by making the most use of our formulating technique is an innovative and unprecedented formulation which allows to divide a tablet into two equal portions by pushing it with a finger in a packaged state irrespective of the direction of its score. Furthermore, it has been proved that divided portions are uniform in quality.
Divided use is more often necessary in infirm or elderly patients, and they may find a difficulty in this handling. We are convinced that the development of this new tablet will lead to an epoch-making advance in not only adequate dispensing in actual medical care but also patient convenience.
We have started manufacturing "Coniel 4mg Tablets*", an antihypertensive and antianginal drug, and "Celtect 30mg Tablets", an antiallergic drug, to which this tablet formulation is applied. From now on, we have the intention of supplying easy-to-use scored tablets by applying this technique.
