Kyowa Hakko Starts Marketing |

|
Kyowa Hakko, a leading Japanese pharmaceutical and biotechnology company, announced it will start marketing in the U.S. and Europe CSPHP super soy, a food ingredient that has been made to enhance the natural, cholesterol-lowering properties of soy. To create CSPHP, Kyowa Hakko has for the first time combined soy protein hydrolyzate with phospholipids, creating an ingredient that can be added to a wide variety of food products, which in turn will inhibit the body's absorption of cholesterol. CSPHP is acknowledged by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare to be a Food for Specified Health Use and provides consumers around the world with a natural, cost-effective way to lower cholesterol. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, excess cholesterol is one of the main causes of heart disease, a condition that costs the U.S. economy roughly $60 billion in lost productivity and medical expenses a year, and is the main cause of death in the U.S. A 3-gram dose of CSPHP taken daily for one month reduced the LDL-cholesterol level of volunteers by 17 percent, whereas the 25-gram daily dose of regular soy the FDA recommends reduces cholesterol by only 10 percent. Furthermore, the same dosage of CSPHP increased HDL-cholesterol by 14 percent. "This health food ingredient dramatically lowers a body's serum-cholesterol levels," said Tadayasu Furukawa, executive officer from Kyowa Hakko's Food Company. "Of course soy is a natural product, which means it's safe to include in your everyday diet. " Since CSPHP is heat-resistant, pH-neutral and stable when mixed with other food ingredients, it provides food producers with a safe, cost-effective ingredient they can add to a wide range of products and manufacturing processes. Alternatively, CSPHP can be taken in powder or tablet form as a dietary supplement.
